Under a Highchair Splat Mat Tutorial

If I had a dollar for every time I was down on the ground cleaning up food from the cracks in my hard wood floors…well I might be able to buy an extra gallon of gas each week. The point is, we spent a lot of time putting in those wood floors and I don’t want to constantly be cleaning dried baby food out of the cracks. I have other cracks to tend to around here and my floor should not be on the list! Sorry if that grosses you out, but it is the truth! So I went online to see what there is out there that I could put under the high chair that I could simply wipe clean and was astonished by some of the products that were close to 30 dollars! What? To spill food on? So I found one of those vinyl table cloths for 3.99 and made 2 of my own in less than 15 minutes!

The easy steps ahead!

With my large rectangular table cloth out flat I folded one short edge in to the center line and cut following the already fancy curved corner. Then I folded it again to trim the other corners with the same curve.

Then I ran the edges (only the ones that weren’t already surged) through my machine with a zig-zag stitch and done! -You don’t even have to sew the edges if you don’t want to.
I did the same thing with the other side of the table cloth so that I would have 2 splat mats. After my little mister makes a mess I wipe it up with a damp cloth. Or if it is really yuck, I toss it in the wash and lay the second one out. They have also come in handy when my little lady wants to paint or do play-doh. I can just take it out and shake it. One less crack to clean for me!

  1. Great idea! It’s amazing how much more something costs if it has baby or wedding in front of the name! Actually the same is true for dog items. Have you seen how much dog towels sell for?!? Our dog just gets to use an old human bath towel!
